Angela Morelis, of estate agent’s Keller Williams, has given specialist publication What Investment her tips on the top places to invest in property abroad.

Spain topped her list, followed by the south of France and Turkey, with Koh Samui in Thailand and Canada offering a good option further afield. Morelis said that with prices in Spain and France having reduced considerably over a number of years, but now beginning to stabilise, the countries represented good value.

Morelis also gave her top tips for investors. Most importantly, use an accredited and professionally insured lawyer who speaks English – and one with an office in the UK might be even better.

Secondly, ensure you know exactly how much the lawyer is charging you, including VAT and legal costs and disbursements. Thirdly, make sure the property has the necessary planning and building permission, should they be needed.
