According to news site Neos Kosmos, Melbourne is set to see over 1,100 new luxury apartments when World Class Land’s upcoming residential tower at 70 Southbank Blvd is built. The Australia 108 tower will have 100 storeys and cost its Singaporean developer approximately AU$1 billion to build.

Designed by Fender Katsalidis Architects, Australia 108 skyscraper is set to become the tallest residential building in the southern hemisphere when it is completed in 2019,  standing at more than 1,040 feet. The project will also boast Australia’s highest swimming pools, fitness facilities, bars, club lounges, private dining areas and a golf simulator.

Construction is due to the start by the middle of this year, though the developer hosted an apartment release for international investors in Singapore last November.

“We were more interested in doing a terrific building, rather than breaking any record,” the Fender Katsalidis architects told the newspaper. “One of the key features setting the tower apart from the rest was the fact it was topped by apartments instead of a plant room. It’s really crowned by residential.”

Residences at Australia 108 will  start at AU$500,000 and reach up to AU$950,000 . The penthouse on the 100th floor is expected to provide 8,575 sq ft of accommodation and sell for as much as AU$20million.
